In order to create a blog that is in my mind successful, I have to figure out what I want it to look like, what atmosphere I want it to have, and have it best represent me. In my opinion, a blog should show who you are: what you are passionate about and a glimpse into your mind.
I learn best from seeing examples and then articulating it myself.
The following blogs are three examples I found that best show my goal in a blog,
1) Out of the Woods - Richard Schmitt
Schmitt periodically, with sophistication, dives into the systemic issues that negatively affect present, and affected past, America. The author shows their interests and passions through this blog while informing the reader of topics that directly influence their community. Upon reading the most recent post, I was instantaneously intrigued to read more. For those with passions similar to the author´s and mine, this blog will draw you in and inspire you. Schmitt shows me how to be informative on a blog while still showing your passions and opinions. I hope that sometime in my blogging experience I will be able to have the same hooking-ability that Schmitt does.
Calamity Politics has not held back for four years. The author shares opinions that voice who they are by denouncing things that are not right, by praising progress, and informing the readers. To voice yourself this much inspires me, I always want to be able to say my opinion on something when I feel passionate about it. I think a blog would be the perfect place to do that.
In their blog, Duron follows the challenges that have been overcome, the education that has been spread, and the love that has come from raising a son who does not conform to gender norms when it comes to dress and expression. CJ, the son, makes his own posts on the blog as he records his strength in overcoming difficulties such as bullying. CJ not conforming to societal roles allows readers to be educated on gender and socialization. In my own blog, I would like to also educate readers beyond what they have been taught as a member of hierarchical society. I think it is important to be exposed to diversity, as shown by Duron.
